Multi-Categorical Support Unit
Caribbean 5 & 6 are purpose built classrooms for students with diagnosed disabilities. These learning spaces are established as two multi-categorical classes, meaning that the students can present with a range of different disabilities together in the one class.
Our leaning hub is currently catering for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and has the capacity for 14 students enrolled from Kindergarten to Year 6. These students are adjusting to school life with the increased support of four adults (two teachers and two School Learning and Support Officers) within the co-teaching space.
The classroom has many exciting resources allowing students to balance their learning time with sensory breaks and special interest projects, to increase focus, motivation and productivity.
The ultimate goal for these students is to work towards accessing mainstream classes independently. Each student has an Individualised Learning Plan and are working through curriculum outcomes.
Each Caribbean student is partnered with a mainstream class for their integration opportunities.
